a path winding up a blue mountain

Statement of Career and Professional Goals

My career goals have shifted during my studies at Florida State University. Originally, I imagined building on my fourteen years in higher education and seeking work in that sector. Mission-based work is important to me and I hope to use my skills to bring positive impacts to people no matter the job sector.

My work centers on learner analysis paired with theory-based strategies. I also see learning as a lever to empower individuals and foster cultural change. I enjoy managing teams to accomplish tasks and hope to maintain a role where I can influence the goals and strategies of my organization.

As I progressed in the ISLT degree program, I enjoyed the multimedia work that fits in with my previous visual arts background designing scenery for theatre. I also resonated with the social constructivist and situativity theories of learning and how they can be applied for effective outcomes. In the last few terms, I have found myself gravitating to instructional design work that is visual and story-based. I am researching companies that produce therapeutic experiences or instructional games using virtual reality or similar innovative technologies. I am also talking to arts focused organizations where my industry knowledge would be an asset. My internship is centered on traditional eLearning but I have found that I prefer to work on projects where the learning context is more collaborative or immersive.

My goal is to find a position that makes good use of my diverse background in the arts and education and where I can make someone’s situation better through delivering innovative and high-quality instructional products.
